Tempo is a neutral, permissionless Layer 1 blockchain specifically designed for payments, incubated and developed by payment giant Stripe and crypto investment firm Paradigm. The project addresses pain points in existing general-purpose blockchains (e.g., Ethereum, Solana) for stablecoin payment scenarios, such as network congestion and fee volatility, aiming to provide efficient, low-cost global payment infrastructure.

Core Goals
To optimize stablecoin and real-time payment processing, supporting large-scale real-world applications including cross-border remittances, micropayments, embedded finance, and agentic payments.

Current Status & Ecosystem
– Announced in September 2025; public testnet launched on December 9, 2025.
– Mainnet rollout expected in 2026.
